If I ever get married I might move to Park City

I spent Memorial Day weekend visiting my friends and former co-contributors at S.P.’s family pool house to celebrate their collective birthdays.

In case you haven’t been to Sara’s parents’ pool house, which unless you’re a family friend or a weird stalker you probably haven’t, picture the infinity pool from the opening shot of “The O.C.” (remember that show?  Ok, neither do I), except instead of Laguna Beach, its nestled in the scenic foothills of Utah and five minutes from a first-rate skiing resort.  Not that I care about that, because the last time I went snowboarding, I was so bad that I got Tim’s season pass confiscated.  Apparently a physically awkward guy who can’t even stand on his board is a red flag at the EZPass turnstile.  Whatever, I was totally racially profiled. What’s that? The other Asian guy I was with didn’t get questioned because he knew how to snowboard?  Whatever. The ACLU will be in contact soon. Rosa Parks isn’t the only minority sister who can represent.

Anyway, Park City is home to one of the most amazing places west of the Rockies: the HIGH…WEST…DISTILLERY.  For those of you who are uninitiated to the magic of High West whiskey, it consists of two parts angel wings, two parts ambrosia, and three parts golden moonshine.  Try the flight. The varietals get progressively older, and the written descriptions get progressively more ridiculous.

Here’s a description of one of my favs: “Beautifully copper-like in color; unblemished in purity. Smells alluringly of English toffee and baked bread in the opening whiffs; time in the glass affords the bouquet the chance to expand into areas of dried fruit and mince meat.”

The ebullient prose may represent the whiskey-equivalent to a J. Peterman catalog, but its also right on target.
