California” Tacos in Nebraska?
I find myself in Omaha, Nebraska (don’t ask) missing all the food options L.A. has to offer. Without Jonathan Gold or even yelp to guide me I have to turn to a douchier source for meal advice. Guy Fieri. Whatever, I’m hungry. He suggests California Tacos & More (www.californiatacosandmore.com). What’s a “California” taco? Anyway, I’m going. Maybe it will remind me of home (probably not).
What I learned from the Diners Drive ins and dives episode streaming prominently throughout the restaurant is that these tacos are made by stuffing raw dough with whatever kind of taco you order, fried, and then stuffed with lettuce and cheese. On the advice of a fellow patron, I ordered one fish and one chicken. What arrived was delicious but bore no resemblance to any taco native to California. Oh well - I got a fried stuffed doughy taco in Omaha. Yum without the California. Thanks Guy Fieri, but you are still a douche.
