Happy new year!

I woke up this morning with flu-like symptoms after a New Years weekend in Las Vegas. Let’s just say that Nyquil gelcaps, Advil, Tylenol, vodka, Woodford Reserve, rare prime rib, horseradish, and 48 straight hours of revelry in Sin City don’t mix very well.

However, this allows me to catch up a little bit on the blog before I collapse into a deep slumber.  During the Hannukah season, I was able to stop by Osteria La Buca on Melrose Avenue with J.H.

I’m really not quite sure why I haven’t gone here before.  The pizzas are well above-average (perhaps we overrate Pizzeria Mozza a tad bit?) and the chalkboard read as follows:

“Today’s special: black squid ink risotto with shrimp and bottarga flakes”

Um, what? Fuck yeah, I’ll have an order of that.  Even the high quality varietals of risotto can be boring-as-hell sometimes, but there was no way I was going to not experience the seasonal joy that is wonderfully dark-as-night starch.

The rest of the food here may very well taste like Lindsay Lohan’s martini backwash for all I know, but I highly doubt it and am eager to return for Hot Lunch Shots, Part Deux.

Osteria La Buca, 5210 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038, (323) 462-1900.
