Umami Burger (www.umamiburger.com)
Ever since Hirohito surrendered on V-J day (why does that not sound right?), Japanese military hegemony has been supplanted with cultural hegemony: Toyota, tuna hand rolls, Hello Kitty, Famima! and hentai porn.
Consider now the latest form of culinary influence: the umami burger chain, infusing a so-called “fifth taste” into the meaty fare.
As a person who personally bathes in truffle oil, I like this place. I had the truffle burger, truffle onion rings and started with a truffle white beet salad. All were nice and the truffle burger was my particular favorite - delicious and outdoing the standard umami burger ordered by my friend. I only have a couple minor complaints: 1) the burgers can be quite greasy; and 2) I think there is crack in the burger glaze. After consuming my meal, I offered to sell my body for a plate of ice cream sandwiches in the parking lot. I don’t think that is normal, at least on a Sunday for me.
I personally enjoy the singular burger fare at Father’s Office, but this place has a greater variety of burger styles and is a little more low-key. Therefore, if you want a tasty (greasy) burger that is a little off the beaten path, Umami Burger is definitely worth a try.
