South Philly Experience (Food Truck)
In between picking up my car from the service shop and the start of the Steelers opener, I stopped by to pickup cheesesteaks from the South Philly Experience (twitter name: SouthPhillyExp). The amiable girl taking orders explained to me that her brother and cousin started this venture together, and all are Philadelphia natives.
I had a cheesesteak with grilled onions and “whiz”, while the ones for my football-watching buddies had provolone. The details are in the authentic Amoroso rolls. Very good. While I’m not ready to declare this nice addition to the LA food truck community as the second coming of Pat’s, the steaks here will absolutely quench any craving you may have for an authentic cheesesteak. And they even sell Tastycakes here! The diced meat is not nearly as greasy as the meat from an old Billybob’s steak (remember Billybob’s, philly people?), which is alternatively a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.
To be fair, the pictures here are after I took them to my buddy’s place. As we all know, something gets lost in the translation through takeout, and the steaks shown do not have added peppers which are available at the truck. - H. Lee
