Crown of India (Hollywood)

When you start looking blindly at Yelp reviews to find a new Indian place, you know you are already partially up s—-’s creek.  But that is exactly what a friend and I did tonight. And it brought us to Crown of India, nestled in small strip mall near Santa Monica Blvd. and Highland.

We walked into this place at 8 pm and immediately noticed we were the only people in the entire establishment.  Note the second picture.  Undaunted, we stayed anyway and ordered a few vegetable samosas, a chicken tikka masala dinner and a lamb vindaloo dinner with some garlic naan.  The food was surprisingly satisfying and more than spicy enough for the average caucasian.  The sag paneer was very good as well but I think the best order was the succulent lamb vindaloo.

We came to the conclusion that this is primarily a take-out establishment.  If you want any ambience at all, I would not recommend this place.  If you want beer and do not feeling like bringing it in from the liquor store next door, I also would not recommend this place.  However, if you want a 1:1 waiter-to-diner ratio and some decently satisfying lamb vindaloo, then this is the place for you.  - H.
