I love the mathematical elegance of a sharply-edged ice cube in my cocktail before it starts to melt into an amorphous, H2O-spewing dilutive lump. A new ice cube evokes a number of emotions and descriptions by association: promise, hope, utility, titillation and intoxication.
On the other hand, shaved ice is awesome too. Ok, fine. As long as the ice keeps my damn cocktail cold, life is good.
Banana Leaf

A really good one will make a morning drinker out of you, while a bad one will turn you into a miserable s.o.b.
In my opinion, a positive sign is if the tomato/clamato mixture has a slightly seedy texture. A negative sign is if the drink has the color consistency of a watermelon jolly rancher, as seen in this michelada from the Village Idiot on Melrose...
